Current Design Review Guidelines

ANNOUNCEMENT
INITIAL DRAFT DESIGN REVIEW GUIDELINES
(POSTED JUNE 22, 2010)

Pursuant to its most recent charge from the CAHH Board of Directors dated January 4, 2010, the Design Review Committee (DRC) is issuing the first iteration of draft Design Review Guidelines. These draft guidelines are the product of several months of volunteer effort initiated as the result of Special Design Review Committee Report recommendations.

DRAFT DRC Guidelines 060910

This initial draft was informed by the excellent work of two subcommittees established by the CAHH Board, the Architecture Review Subcommittee and Process Subcommittee. Reports from these two subcommittees are posted below and are made available by the CAHH Board which has designated them "for reference only" and "not for comment".

NOTE: Civic association members that do not have computer access to these forms may request a hard copy of the documents by contacting Christine Leonard, civic association president, at christine@craftedarchitecture.com by no later than June 30, 2010. Shortly after the deadline, copies will be printed and those requesting the documents will be notified when they will be available for pick up.

Next Steps:
Residents are invited to submit written questions or comments to the DRC by email or other form. All written comments and questions should be sent to the DRC Chairperson, Derek Norton, by emailing him at cahh.drc@gmail.com. All questions and comments will be posted on the CAHH website within 48 hours of receipt.

A town hall meeting which is open to the entire Hollin Hills community will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., at the Sherwood Hall Public Library, 2501 Sherwood Hall Lane, (703) 765-3645. Additional written comments following the town hall meeting may be submitted to Derek Norton until midnight, July 18, 2010.

At its discretion, the DRC may hold additional community meetings and/or extend the comment period beyond July 18, 2010.

Given due consideration to community comments, the DRC will create a final draft of the revised Guidelines and submit that final draft to the CAHH Board of Directors.

Landscaping in Hollin Hills

Landscaping does not require Design Review Committee approval. However, you may find A House in the Woods, by Dennis Carmichael, a helpful resource for ideas about landscaping your Hollin Hills property.

Authors Note: Although most of the plants recommended in this 1989 publication are still good, please check for any plants that are now considered to be invasive species (English Ivy, for example) and avoid planting in your 2010 garden!
