2024 CAHH Board Accomplishments

Board Governance and Administration 

  • Conduct an in-depth review and analysis of the existing CAHH by-laws; make constructive change recommendations to the CAHH membership for voting and approval/rejection (CONTINUING)
  • Conduct an in-depth review and analysis of our financial statements with respect to Virginia law, taxes and the requirements of a 501(c)(7) corporation (CONTINUING)
  • Evaluate nearby storage facilities for improved pricing and terms (e.g., opportunities for long-term commitment (1-year lease) for reduced monthly fees) (IN PROGRESS)

Parks

  • Community Entrance (Paul Spring Rd) 
    • Maintain and beautify  neighborhood entrance using low maintenance native plants; originally funded by Audobon at Home with Plan NOVA Natives in a mini-grant program funded by Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation's Environmental Education and Stewardship Grants Program (CONTINUING)
  • Community Entrance (Sherwood Hall)
    • Remove and reduce shrubs directly surrounding signage (COMPLETE)
  • Sutton Potter Park
    • Water discharged from a nearby property is resulting in standing water.  Investigate cause, determine source, contact homeowner, and seek solution and resolution.
    • Finalize and correct Fairfax County records related to the "dog leg"  Parcel: 0933 01 0009. (IN PROGRESS)
  • McCalley Park
    • Continue support the natural plantings demonstration project; reapply naming labels, as needed.  (COMPLETE)
  • Goodman Park & Trail
    • Continue focus on invasive plant removal (CONTINUING)
    • Continue stewardship and nurturing of new native trees, shrubs and other plantings installed (CONTINUING)
  • Bricklemaier Park & Trail
    • Continue focus on invasive plant removal (CONTINUING)
    • Continue stewardship and nurturing of new native trees, shrubs and other plantings installed (CONTINUING)
  • Voigt Park
    • Install and support the Willow Dome (presented by Friends of Hollin Hills) (COMPLETE)
    • Continue focus on invasive plant removal, with special emphasis nearest pool and tennis/pickleball courts (CONTINUING)

Social / Events

  • Plan and execute a variety of 75th Anniversary events in addition to regular events (COMPLETE)
  • Identify all known events in the community (regardless of sponsor) (CONTINUING)
  • Communicate all events to all community residents via the Constant Contact mailing list (CONTINUING)
  • Communicate and open registration for any "registration-required" events consistently on the 15th day of the preceding month (CONTINUING)

Technology Support and Improvement for Members

Improvements we're making:

  • Central place to quickly access useful information at hollinhills.org for ALL Hollin Hills residents, such as:
    • Frequently used telephone numbers / websites including emergency numbers (COMPLETE)
    • Easy to understand, plain language instructions on when and how to engage with the DRC (COMPLETE)
    • Opportunities to volunteer within the community and share my talents and time to help others (CONTINUING)
    • How to engage directly with the appropriate State and County resources  (non-emergency fire and police, mental health, code enforcement) to resolve common community issues. (COMPLETE)
    • Consolidated community events calendar (COMPLETE)
  • Secure on-line payment for dues, donations and Hollin Hills merchandise (COMPLETE)
  • Easy-to-access, use and update online, real-time Hollin Hills Directory (COMPLETE)
  • Additional information for CAHH members (CONTINUING)

Technology Support and Improvement for CAHH Board

Improvements we're making:

  • Deploy a common domain name, hollinhills.org, and a back up, hollinhills.com, as the single, long-term digital home for CAHH's website, email and membership software (COMPLETE -- except for obtaining hollinhills.com)
  • Official email addresses for all CAHH Board and DRC members to use to conduct CAHH business using the title@hollinhills.org naming convention (COMPLETE -- Implemented using Google Workspaces)
    • Email addresses will remain constant even as board and DRC members change 
    • Supports continuity of information and operations as new board members come up to speed
    • Improves cybersecurity of board operations -- reduced email spoofing by hackers
  • Single system that supports secure membership database and administration with integrated payments, events management and on-line store (COMPLETE)
    • Automates what was tedious and time-consuming work
    • Reduces administrative burden and data-entry errors
    • Professional software upgrades and support without high-cost customer development services
  • Central, secure, on-line repository of information shared by all current board members, supports (COMPLETE -- Implemented using Google Workspaces shared drive)
    • Better decision making
